« Show and Tell Friday June 5th | Main | 15 Hours is Great Too! »
It's Friday!
by Lori Woodward Simons on 6/12/2009 8:14:57 AM

You know what that means?

It's time to brag about our time in the studio this week.

Haven't really been tracking my time this week - but have been getting tons done. I'm definitely over 20 hours. Being away from other responsibilities helps me to focus on writing and painting (and eating out)
I've had a great week in Acadia National Park... although it's been raining most every day, I managed to get outdoors for 2 days, and painted indoors yesterday - will do so again today (it's pouring out). Tomorrow is supposed to be only partly cloudy.

When outdoors, I like to do watercolor studies for larger paintings I'll do back in the comfort of my studio. Here are a couple of studies:

View of Cadillac and Dorr Mtns from Otter Creek. Frederick Edwin Church painted this scene in the 19th century.

Study from Duck Pond Acadia National Park.

Hope everyone's had a happy and productive week! Painting every day keeps me sharp and constantly improving.

Sincerely,
Lori

13 hours this week. Really great considering last 2 weeks have only been 5-6 each. Helped that I was in an equine anatomy course for 2 days doing a lot of drawing in down time and in the evenings. This is helping me to reprioritize my life away from the J-O-B. Hope to post some drawings in the future.

I love this challenge! Makes me realize how distracting the internet has become for me. I seem to spend more time at the computer than at the easel. So, just counting Monday - Friday of this week, I barely got in 8 hours of painting time. My goal for this week will be 12 hours and am planning to add 4 more hours each week until I'm up to 20.

Lori what size are the studies and what would you say is the average time one should spend doing a study like that. I spent a day ding my first out side painting and finished inside and spent about 8 hours on it but it had alot of detail with stone walls. Thanks Bruce

I have just begun my journey with this challenge in a desperate attempt to discipline myself to spend more time in the studio and less time on the computer and doing other things. I am keeping track of my progress on my blog. Thank you Lori for starting this challenge!!!

Nancy, Believe me! I know how difficult it is to pull myself away from the computer. I do work on it, so I must limit my time to contact friends and just play around.

Playing on the PC is a lot less scary than being in the studio - because on the PC we have relatively little chance of failure. But if we spend all our time on the PC, we will fail as an artist.

Thank you for taking on this challenge. I wish you success and many beautiful works of art.

Well, since I just started this challenge three days ago, I didn't expect to get in a lot of hours by Friday. On the plus side, I did manage to get in 6 hours, so for only three days, that's okay I guess. However, I've already put in three hours today toward next week and accomplished a complete underpainting for my next painting, plus completed 95 percent of another painting! It's already working, getting me to produce more artwork and I just started. :D
